2cm Flakvierling 38 continued

News just posted of the forthcoming Nuts & Bolts Vol.27 2cm Flakvierling 38 is just what modellers have been waiting for with just sparing mentions in previous reference books. There has been some excellent photo coverage of the 2cm Flakvierling 38 in publications such as the Wings & Wheels Publications Sd.Kfz.7 in detail Special Museum Line No.36 and AFV Super Detail Photo Vol.9, both on the Sd.Kfz.7/1 but till now no in depth technical or production information. This new book should hopefully answer many unanswered questions which leads me to the next bit.

Back last year I posted individual reviews of the 2cm Flakvierling 38 kits from AFV Club, Bronco Models, DML and Trumpeter but didn’t follow through with the promised full comparison review. This was partly due to time but mostly I just didn’t have enough detailed information to do this justice given that three of the kits are of a high standard to start with.

With the new information certain to be in the Nuts & Bolts book I will hopefully have enough info to go back and complete that comparison to allow modelling to know exactly what each kit does and doesn’t have detail wise so stay tuned for the final instalment of the 2cm Flakvierling 38 kit saga when the Nuts & Bolts book is available in mid May.

  1. It will be interesting to see a Flakvierling 38 comparison, but now that DML's Sd.Kfz 10/5 is out, why not a comparison between it and Italeri's offering? Italeri's kit is not so old (it is a "new" mould, not the old ESCI mould), so a side to siode comparison (details, dimmensions, etc.) will be really interesting.

  2. Hi José

    Thanks for the suggestion.

While the Italeri kit maybe newer than the old Esci it still is not in the same league as the new DML kit in terms of moulding, fit and overall details, the work needed to fix the suspension was covered here: http://www.perthmilitarymodelling.com/reviews/vehicles/friulmodel/atl-110.html and the 2cm FlaK 38 gun here: http://www.perthmilitarymodelling.com/reviews/vehicles/flak38/flak38.htm

With a full comparison the result is inevitable and I simply wouldn’t have the time at present. The next full comparison is the AFV Club/DML 105mm Howitzer M2A1 & Carriage M2A2 (almost done) and the next will be the Bronco/Trumpeter Sd.Kfz.6/2 when both kits are released.

    Cheers
